Career Objective

Since completing my house officer posts I have been focused on a career in orthopaedic surgery. I have completed excellent training, both as a basic surgical trainee in Cambridge, Norwich and East Grinstead, and subsequently as a higher specialist trainee in and around Cambridge. In addition to the general orthopaedic rotation, my training has been focused in the following areas:

  • Paediatric Orthopaedics: I enjoyed more than 3 years of dedicated paediatric orthopaedic training before being appointed as a Consultant. As a basic surgical trainee I worked for Professor Nick Clarke in Southampton, for David Conlan in Cambridge and Keith Tucker in Norwich. As a Higher Surgical Trainee I worked for Philip Edge in Bedford and again for David Conlan in Cambridge. On the Ingham Fellowship in Sydney I worked with all of the Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants but perhaps most closely with Michael Bellemore and Professor David Little.
  • Hip and Knee Surgery: I have benefitted from more than 2 years of hip and knee training. As a Higher Surgical Trainee I worked for Matthew Porteous and Adrian August in Bury St Edmunds. For the last 2 years of my training I worked for Jai Chitnavis, Julian Owen, Professor Neil Rushton and Alastair Vince in Cambridge.
  • Trauma: Trauma has always played a strong part in my training. I gained an unparalleled experience in the management of paediatric trauma working in the tertiary referral Children's Hospital in Sydney.

Managerial and Leadership Skills

I have had many leadership roles through school, university, industry and throughout my medical career. I was Secretary of the Cambridge Orthopaedic Club in 2006. I am currently Clinical Tutor in Orthopaedics in Peterborough with responsibility for the training of our Higher Surgical Trainees.

Teaching Experience

Teaching is a great passion of mine. I take every available opportunity to be involved with teaching. I have had formal and informal roles teaching medical students and surgical trainees at every level. I have also been privileged to be invited to teach both nurses and physiotherapists.

I have been invited to be an Advance Trauma Life Support Instructor.

I have spent 6 years teaching medicine at Cambridge University Medical School:

Clinical Supervisor posts

2004 - 2005 St John's College, Cambridge
2002 - 2004 King's College, Cambridge
2000 - 2002 Newnham College, Cambridge

I sat on the curriculum committee of the Cambridge University Medical School.

I was an Examiner in the Final MB Examinations for Cambridge University Medical School in 2005 and 2006.
